His and Hers – Mike Gayle

His and Hers – Mike Gayle

When you look back on your life so far, and the person you have chosen, have you made the right choice?

If you have, or even if you haven’t, then this book really is for you.

His and Hers” is one hell of a moving story about love, loss, separation and reconciliation…In short, I bloody loved it.

Here’s why:

His and Hers” is essentially a story about two 30-somethings called Jim and Alice who live in London. The tale kicks off in Jim’s flat – he’s separated, divorced from Alice and just enjoying the single life. However, with the death of a cat called Disco (who Jim bought for his ex-wife Alice when they were at university together) she gets in touch and asks Jim to accompany her to the vets, just to say goodbye…

The story suddenly flicks back to the early 90s, where Jim met Alice for the first time at university.

Snakebite and black.

Student politics.

Student digs.

Meeting the parents…

Oh I remember it well. I could really relate to Mike’s story about these two lovebirds at university. The innocence, coupled with the “striving out to be an individual” was so very true. If you’ve read my previous posts you’ll know how I fell in love at university too, but it wasn’t to be…. ho hum!

Anyway, Mike’s story about these two really hits it home. And then when they split up it his even harder. It’s not until their cat dies that you finally think: “GET BACK TOGETHER!!!!”

Seriously, I really enjoyed this book. Not only does Mike capture the feelings of 20-somethings at university, he really makes you fall in love with both Alice and Jim. You will laugh with them, you will take a side when they argue – and you will want them to get back together.

Trust me, this is a very emotional read written with love and passion and care. I really enjoyed it – it made me laugh, smile and yes shed a tear to boot.

Top marks Mr Gayle – Highly recommended.

The Book Boy Rating – 4/5
